Last week, the students were able to build their own solar ovens to see how they can design an oven that uses energy from the Sun to make the best s’more! The objective was to observe how light energy and thermal energy were being used in the exploration.
We started off our new math unit by exploring what multiplication really looks like! Students used different tools to show their thinking and reasoning of various multiplication equations.
Observing Changes in Matter:
We took ice cubes outside and placed them on a grid. Every two minutes, we recorded how many squares in the grid were covered by water. Although it was extremely hot outside, it was cool to watch the ice turn from a solid to a liquid. One of our lovely counselors, Mrs. Dainton, came to visit our class to give a lesson on how to respect and listen to others. The students had a great time engaging in different games/activites Mrs. Dainton prepared in order to help us build a stronger classroom community. We love our counselors so very much!
Thank you for visiting us, Mrs. Dainton! International Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration that began with the book, The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who challenges a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing. |
